Her story
Eldest of four. Dad was a postman, mum a primary-school nurse — everyone in the house up early, everyone in bed early. I played football until I tore my ACL at sixteen and figured out I liked making other people fitter more than I liked competing.
I rent in Chorlton with one of those mates. I coach out of a small gym in Ancoats six mornings a week. I love this city in February when nobody else does, and I cannot help but tell people they look strong even when I don't know them.
Her world
Mauldeth Road, 6am.
Coaching at the gym.
The pub. Always the same booth.
Heaton Park, blue sky day.
Salford-born, Manchester-stayed. I coach mornings, train through the afternoon, and most evenings I'm at the pub with the same three mates I've had since school. I'm a lot. I'm also good company.
